The things that influenced me to come to Animas were the, project based learning, the support that is provided by the teachers and students towards people who are in need of it, the fun activities that we do with our advisories, and the fact that the teachers are understanding when a student is going through issues. When I first moved in with my new foster, I was in a very difficult situation. I had the responsibility of the adult of the house after my grandmother lost all of her children and slipped into her depression. She slowly started to become more mentally unstable, and I knew that I alone could not help her, but I still did not want to ask anyone for help because I was afraid that me and my sister would be separated. Once I was put into a placement with the Kolter’s, I kept myself isolated because my grandmother had created the idea in the minds of me and my sister, that we were never safe and all types of other crazy ideas. When I had a meeting at the school I saw how small it was and thought that it would be easy to locate my classes, that was not enough though. When I heard about the project based learning I thought that it would make the lessons and assignments more easy to understand and fun. The main influence that officially decided that I was going to come to Animas was the fact that the teachers are very understanding and helpful if I ever had any issues in or outside of school.
